Whereas many territories were admitted to statehood shortly after settlement, some areas such as Alaska (bought from Russia in 1867) were admitted after many years.

Money
In 1913, the Federal Reserve Act was passed which created the Federal Reserve System as the nation's central bank to regulate the flow of money and credit. The system was authorized to issue Federal Reserve Notes, now the only U.S. currency produced.

In 1929, currency was reduced in size by 25% and received uniform portraits on the front and emblems and monuments on the back.
